When many of us think of computer coding, we picture someone sitting behind a wall of text solving problems with technology. The idea of getting a child to type code from scratch to build a simple program may seem a little boring from a parent’s perspective, but there are some ways to make the process of coding less complicated and more fun for children. Here are some of the best ways that we avoid boredom with coding:
Coding Games:
One of the base activities that we choose in our program is to build simple games that kids can customize and make their own. Many kids love playing on apps and their consoles. Giving them the option to build their own game can often be a great way to make coding fun and to help keep them motivated through the process.
Coding Toys:
Coding doesn’t always have to take place on a computer. There are a number of toys on the market that can give kids the basis for coding formulas and learning coding language. By engaging kids with these toys, we can give them an excellent base of knowledge for when they are ready to code on screen.
Coding Activities:
Coding to manage real world activities such as predicting the next card in a card deck or telling a robot to follow a set path are fun to engage children with and an excellent way we can showcase the possibilities that are available with technology. We can also deconstruct popular in person kids games and have kids explaining the actions using programming language. These are all primers to helping children learn programming on and offline
