In Roblox Studio and Scratch or any game design languanges, there are various resources we can use to create a game or a project. You can create/draw sprites, code, design audio, 3D model, and much more!

This is where Game Design club comes in — we motivate students of all ages and genders to experiment with all the components of game design, coding, and the myriad STEM foundations involved in making a game with Roblox Studio and/or Scratch! Using LUA scripting, Roblox Studio’s terrain editor and modeling tools, and Scratch’s sprite editor and block coding, students will learn coding, physics concepts, animation, and sound design. We will also have monthly challenges and showcases where students will individually create games based on themes, given sprites, etc, and then present them. Students also have the option of creating games together in teams and splitting into different roles (animator, coder, artist, audio designer, etc.).

Schedule Layout (All year round)

  • Almost every month (when we aren’t doing the competitions): We will be doing casual game design in teams or individually and we will play each other’s games and review them at the end of the two months
        • Week 1
          • Brainstorm/planning for games and splitting up into groups and roles
        • Week 2-7
          • Create and work on the games, with the club instructor’s guidance
        • Week 8
          • Everyone showcases their games and we play them together and give reviews/tips
  • Every third month: We will do a themed competition, where everyone will individually create games based on themes/given sprites/genres
      • Week 1
        • Brainstorm/planning for games and splitting up into groups and roles
      • Week 2 and 3
        • Create and work on the games, with the club instructor’s guidance
      • Week 4
        • Invite people to come to our zoom call for the bi-monthly competition so the students can showcase their games and everyone can play
